Kindly note that MobJab.In IMPS Gateway which supported IMPS version 1.3 has been taken down. Development for IMPS version 1.3 has been stopped totally and we dont provide support for IMPS version 1.3 clients. Only IMPS Version 1.1 and 1.2 supported via MobJab.Mobi IMPS Gateway.

XMPP/Gtalk connectivity is now offered via MobJab.Mobi IMPS Gateway. Users are requested to register their Gtalk-XMPP accounts on the XMPP Transport on MobJab.Mobi IMPS Gateway.

ICQ Messenger

ICQ Transport Update:

AOL has sold off ICQ recently. That means the AIM transport wont be able to handle ICQ from now on. We got a separate ICQ transport working and ICQ users need to register on ICQ Transport only.

If you have registered ICQ account on AIM Transport then Kindly remove/de-register that ICQ account using the web client and register the ICQ account only on ICQ Transport.

ICQ Transport supports Unicode, Cyrillic, UTF-8 messages. This means that you can now chat on ICQ in Russian, Arabic, etc Languages.

MobJab.In Domain

Gtalk/XMPP is standalone option only via mobjab.in Domain. We do have plans to add AIM/ICQ/Yahoo/MSN on the mobjab.In domain at a later stage.

IMPS version 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 is supported by mobjab.in Domain.

Web Client and Email2Mobile Feature does not work with mobjab.in Domain.

Pictures/Images/MMS works with mobjab.in Domain.

Contact Lists

You would require to define/create atleast one Contact Lists to add your contacts on MobJab.in IMPS Gateway. If by any chance you are not able to create a Contact Lists try adding a Gtalk/XMPP user and you would be prompted to create a Contact Lists before adding the user.

Unicode, Cyrillic, UTF-8

ICQ Transport now supports Unicode, Cyrillic, UTF-8 messages. This means that you can now chat on AIM/ICQ in Russian, Arabic, etc Languages.

Now you can use your own domain on mobjab.in via XMPP federation. If you are using Google Apps for your domain and want to use Google Talk with your domain then you would need following DNS entries.

Wi-Fi as the Access point

Can i use Wi-Fi as the Access point for the IMPS client?

Yes you can. The way round it is to copy a existing packet data access point, rename it to say "IM connection", then go to the IM settings and select that access point setting for connecting to the IM client. Then go back to your phones connection settings and change the "IM connection" from packet data to Wi-Fi. Now your IM client should connect via Wi-Fi instead of packet data. (Thanks to Richard Siddle for this)

Update: For fp2 and 5th edition devices (ex. nokia 5800) it is no longer possible to use wi-fi.

It seems they have changed their connection settings. Once a wifi or data packet connection created one is no longer allowed to edit its data bearing settings. (Thanks to Snowy for this)

1. Update on MobJab.Mobi IMPS Server

We had many requests for adding XMPP Transport on mobjab.mobi IMPS server. We had tried this in the past but were not successful. But finally it seems we might have managed to get it working. Kindly remember that this XMPP transport is experimental.

XMPP Transport:

This would support accounts like gmail.com or jabber.org. Register on the XMPP transport with your XMPP Account with the following format:

Username: User@gmail.com or user@jabber.org
Password: Your xmpp Password

You would get all your XMPP accounts cotacts listed in your roster.

2. We are also working on other features/transports. We are testing Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Would request all our fellow MobJab Users to let us know if they would like to use all 3 or any specific one.

Facebook features would be using it to chat with your facebook chat buddies, Twitter features will be updating your tweets and receving your tweets, and MySpace would be chatting with your MySpace buddies.

Pictures/MMS

We have added a new feature of sending Pictures/Images/MMS via the mobjab.in Domain. You can send Images/Pictures via the IMPS client if supported by your mobile handset. In the conversation/chat option click on "Send Image" and select the appropriate image to be sent. If you are sending the Pictures/Images/MMS to a Gtalk/XMPP User connected via PC then they would get a link to view/download the Pictures/Images/MMS.

Contacts/Buddies

After i login to MobJab I dont see my contacts/buddies?

You would require to change/update your presence to "Available/Online" and then your contacts/buddies will be displayed. For SonyEricsson handsets you need to select "Watching Users" to see your contacts and then add them from there (Thanks to Eric Strebel for pointing this out).

After i login to MobJab I dont see my external networks contacts/buddies?

When you first login to your MobJab account after you have added AIM/MSN/Yahoo/ICQ/Gtalk-XMPP external networks in your account you would get a presence message from the server asking your authorisation that if you want to add your buddy on the external network to your buddy list and subscribe to his presence. You need to add and authorise and subscribe to presence of the external transports buddies. Else you wont see the external buddies presence.

After I login to Gtalk-XMPP IMPS Gateway on MobJab.in I dont see any of my Gtalk-XMPP Contacts/Buddies there.

You dont get the list of freinds/buddies of GTalk automatically on mobjab.in as there is no need to register your Gtalk-XMPP account with us.

You need to directly add Gtalk-XMPP users to your IMPS client on your handset.

You would only get the list of freinds/buddies of AIM/ICQ/MSN/Yahoo automatically on mobjab.mobi as you have registered your AIM/ICQ/MSN/Yahoo account with us.

Error Messages

"Sorry, you do not appear to be registered to this transport. Please register and try again"

Try to login to the web client and re-register your External IM transport again.

"maximum number of conversations active"

Email us your MobJab UserName so that we can delete chat conversations waiting to be delivered to your handset.

"Connection not avaialble" or "Error Ocured while Opening Connection" or "Network Error".

Either your Data/GPRS connectivty is not stable or your Mobile Operators Data/GPRS network is not able to connect to MobJab Server. Try connecting after some time.

"Login Failed" or "Authentication Failed"

If the error "Login Failed" or "Authentication Failed" persists and you have entered the correct username and password of MobJab IMPS Server then most likely your IMPS client has 1.3 wireless village protocol version which is NOT supported by mobjab.mobi Domain. You would require to use the mobjab.in Domain.

"Your session with AIM is not active at this time." Or "Unable to connect to service. Try again later."

This is a temporary connectivty issue. Try to login after some few minutes.

MobJab.mobi Domain

IMPS Client

AFAWK there are no native nokia IM app installer program or any native IM/My Freinds Installers available.

Also on some Nokia handsets like Nokia N85 it seems that the inbuilt IM client is hidden. The easiest way to find the application is to do a search for IM - you can even go straight to applications under the search categories and pick it straight out of the list of applications.

If that doesn't work, you can get to it via a voice command (keep your finger on the right hand soft key for a few seconds to activate), and say "Instant Messaging".
